Histopathologic evaluation of seborrheic keratoses and acantholysis [SEBOREIK KERATOZUN HISTOPATOLOJIK TIPLERININ DEGERLENDIRMESI VE AKANTOLIZ]

Seborrheic keratoses, one of the benign tumors of epidermis, are studied both clinically and histologically. The mean age of 50 patients with seborrheic keratoses was 54.5. However, there were 3 cases under the age of 20. Fifty-two percent of the lesions were located on the face and scalp, while 10% was on the back, 22% was on cervical region and chest, 8% was on abdomen and inguinal region and finally 8% was on the extremities. Histologic examination showed that 40% of the samples was of hyperkeratotic type, 38% was of acanthotic type and 10% was of adenoid type. There were also combined histologic appearance. 4% was of hyperkeratotic and adenoid type together, and 4% was hyperkeratotic and acanthotic type together. Two cases showed bowenoid changes. In seven cases acantholysis was observed in the epidermis. It is suggested that acantholysis is due to spongiosis and dyskeratotic and degenerative changes of keratinocytes
