Fundamentals of the construction of an electricity generating plant with the help of thermionic conversion of the solar energy for spacecrafts are outlined. In the course of the study it appeared that inside of the trajectory of Mars solar energy plants will be more suitable than thermionic reactors, mainly due to technical robustness and light construction. The fabrication costs of the solar energy converters seem to be lower because they have simpler construction and seem more suitable for mass production than nuclear converters
