Ultrasonography has a limited value in the diagnosis of chronic hepatitis and early liver cirrhosis. We compared ultrasonographic and histopathologic findings of non-alcoholic chronic viral hepatitis and investigated the value of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of early liver cirrhosis. One hundred cases with chronic liver disease with viral etiology were enrolled the study. Ultrasonographic evaluation of liver has been done by scoring the parameters of liver surface regularity, paranchimal echo changes, echogenic and diametric differences in hepatic vessels, and spleen size changes; than total score has been accepted as 'cirrhosis score'.
