Effect of Seam to Drape Coefficient of Gabardine Fabrics

WOS: 000271981800006Garment quality is a result of various factors such as design, fabric, and seam. The seam-to-drape coefficient (DC) effect on gabardine fabric was studied. For this purpose, 10 gabardine fabrics and three stitch types (lock stitch, chain stitch, and overlock stitch) were selected. Effect of stitch density on DC was studied using two different stitch densities in seamed fabrics, Seam operations increase fabric DC. Increases in stitch density increases the DC, with a clear effect for lightweight gabardine fabrics. DC differences due to stitch density changes were minimal in overlock stitch seamed fabrics. The greatest DC differences due to stitch density changes were observed in chain stitch seamed fabrics, Highly-significant correlation was found between the seamed fabric DC and fabric weight and thickness
