Abstract

Tension Myoneural Syndrome (TMS) as a diagnosis was developed in the late 1970s by John Sarno (MD). He discovered that often back pain and later other chronic pain conditions are psychosomatic in nature. The main objectives of this Master’s Thesis was to provide a comprehensive literature research on the origin, symptoms and treatment of TMS and to develop an online diagnostic TMS questionnaire tool. The literature research revealed that the area of psychosomatic pain conditions is scarcely studied.
