Linguistylistic analysis and the translation of a short story from Polish into Croatian

Ovaj diplomski rad sastoji se od prijevoda kratke forme i rasprave. Kratka priča koja je prevedena s poljskog na hrvatski jezik je "Plac w Iraklionie" pisca Wita Szostaka. Tema rasprave je lingvostilistička analiza koja se sastoji od teorijskog dijela i primjera iz prijevoda koji prikazuju probleme koji su se pojavili tijekom prevođenja. U teorijskom dijelu su definirane praznine između kultura koji se pojavljuju zbog različith gledišta u kulturama i jezicima te su prikazani postupci pomoću kojih prevoditelji mogu premostiti te praznine. U raspravi su analizirane taksonomije Vladimira Ivira i Piotra Kwiecińskog te se raspravlja o pozitivnim i negativnim posljedicama korištenja postupaka u određenim kontekstima. U radu se također raspravlja o sintaktičkim razlikama između dvaju jezika, posebice o redu riječi u rečenici, te na koje sintaktičke elemente prevoditelji moraju obratiti pažnju tijekom prevođenja.This thesis comprises a translation, accompanied by a discussion. A short story under the title "Plac w Iraklionie" by Wit Szostak was translated from Polish into Croatian. The discussion focused on the linguistic and stylistic analysis that comprises a theoretical part and examples from the translated text which show the problems encountered during the act of translation. Moreover, culture gaps were defined as well as possible reasons for their existence. One of which is the difference between perceptions in different cultures and languages. The discussion also shows possible strategies to help bridge the gaps, as well as the positive and negative consequences of these strategies. The focus in this thesis was on Vladimir Ivir’s and Piotr Kwieciński’s taxonomies and the positive and negative aspects and consequences of using these strategies in certain contexts. Moreover, this thesis focused on the differences in syntax between the two languages with emphasis on the word order and the problems that may arise during the act of translation
