Bu çalışmada kalem grafit elektrot yüzeyi, kitosan varlığında polianilin (PAni) ve polipirol (PPy) iletken polimerleriyle modifiye edilmiştir. Elde edilen bu kompozit yapıların suyun elektrolizindeki katalitik aktiviteleri dönüşümlü voltametri (CV), Tafel polarizasyon eğrileri ve elektrokimyasal impedans spektroskopisi (EIS) gibi elektrokimyasal yöntemlerle incelenmiştir. Daha sonra kompozit yapılar, katalitik aktiviteleri yüksek Pt ve Au nanoyapılı metaller ile modifiye edilerek sudan hidrojen üretimindeki katalitik performansları aynı elektrokimyasal yöntemlerle karşılaştırılmıştır.
