What is the birders perception of Varanger as a bird destination?

This assignment is a study of why birdwatchers go to Varanger and what perception they have of Varanger as a bird-watching destination. Furthermore, the focus is on the extent to which facilitation for wildlife- and bird tourism is attractive for those who travel to Varanger Peninsula to watch birds. The theoretical basis of this assignment consists of the theory of wildlife tourism and bird fauna and about Varanger Peninsula as a birdwatching destination. Qualitative methodology has been used with semi- structured depth interviews with informants. The informants are randomly selected at the places you expect to find birdwatchers. The interviews are transcribed and coded for research questions. The research questions are based on push and pull factors, the "push factor" can be described as factors that make people leave home away from routines and "everyday life", and "pull factors" are factors that cause people to go to a place - or products / places that attract people. The main question in the assignment is based on pull factors, with the question: What pulls the birdwatchers to Varanger Peninsula? The results show that important pull factors among the birdwatchers on Varanger Peninsula are unique arctic nature, many bird species and large bird colonies. Pulling factors are that they want to vacation in an environment where they feel freedom - with a big action room to stay and move wherever you want. Many of the informants have traveled on organized tours with bird watching as the theme, and some come from countries with many restrictions. In Norway and in the Varanger Peninsula, they can experience a sense of freedom which is unique to them. However, most of the informants could consider attending a guided tour, if the guide was knowledgeable.Denne oppgaven er en studie av hvorfor fuglekikkere trekker til Varanger og hvilken oppfatning de har av Varanger som fuglekikkerdestinasjon. Videre er fokuset på i hvilken grad tilrettelegging for vilt- og fugleturisme er attraktivt for de som reiser til Varangerhalvøya for å se på fugler. Det teoretiske grunnlaget i denne oppgaven består av teori om viltturisme og fuglekikking og om Varangerhalvøya som fuglekikkingsdestinasjon. Det er anvendt kvalitativ metode med semistrukturerte dybdeintervju med 15 informanter. Informantene er tilfeldig utvalgt på de stedene man forventer å finne fuglekikkere. Intervjuene er transkribert og kodet til forskningsspørsmålene. Forskningsspørsmålene er basert på «push and pull» faktorer, der «push-faktor» kan beskrives som faktorer som får personer til å dra hjemmefra, vekk fra rutiner og «hverdagen», og «pull-faktorer» er faktorer som får personer til å dra til et sted - eller produkter/steder som drar folk til seg. I markedsføringsfaget blir disse faktorene brukt som trykk- og trekk kommunikasjon. Hovedspørsmålet i oppgaven er vektet på pull-faktorer, med spørsmålet: Hva trekker fugleturistene til Varangerhalvøya. Resultatene viser at viktige pull- faktorer blant fuglekikkerne på Varangerhalvøya er unik arktisk natur, mange fuglearter og store fuglekolonier. Pull- faktorer er at de ønsker å feriere i et miljø hvor de føler frihet - med et stort handlingsrom for å oppholde seg og bevege seg fritt. Mange av informantene har vært på organiserte turer med fuglekikking som tema, og flere kommer fra land med mange restriksjoner. I Norge og på Varangerhalvøya kan de oppleve en frihetsfølelse som for dem er unik. De fleste av informantene kunne likevel vurdere å delta på guidet tur, under forutsetning at guiden var kunnskapsrik.submittedVersionM-REI
