After years of analysis there is still a tremendous number of consumers who are unaware of whether you gain something or not from active management of mutual funds. This paper investigates the performance and persistence in active Norwegian mutual funds using a survivorship bias free dataset in the period between 1983 until 2017. The prospect of the paper is to test the hypotheses “Is actively managed mutual funds worth the money – will fund managers be able to find positive alfa?” and in the extension of this the paper also investigates if they are persistent in their performance.
