Our electric power systems are subject to major restructuring in the near future. Increased need of power, increasing foreign connections, flexibility among users, climate change and a growing power production which is unpredictable, are challenges that tomorrow’s power system faces. The big question remains how we can monitor, maintain and operate such a complex power system. With the help of ICT we can find or develop possible solutions to handle this major question. It is desirable to integrate principles and research on maintenance and risk monitoring regarding elements in the power system’s flow of information, in order to create real time tools in risk monitoring and decision support in operation and maintenance.
