Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide. Most cases of CRC appear to be caused by somatic mutations, but a small number of cases are the result of germline mutations in the tumor-suppressor gene adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) which causes an inherited condition called familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). FAP manifests as hundreds to thousands of adenomas in the colon, and if left untreated, the patient has a 100% risk of developing CRC. The multiple intestinal neoplasia (Min/+) mouse, traditionally bred on a C57BL/6J (B6) genetic background, is one of the most widely used murine models for human FAP, and the mutation in the murine Apc gene replicates the fundamental mutational event seen in both FAP and sporad...
