Managing inbreeding is essential for all breeding work, especially in small populations. Optimal Genetic Contribution (OCS) is a selection method that restricts inbreeding while maximizing genetic gain. The aim of this study was to apply OCS in the ram selection for Norwegian Cheviot Sheep in the mating season in 2014 and compare with the actual selection done the same year. Four different scenarios were tested, with the aim to meet as many of the biological and economical restrictions as possible. The OCS calculations were done with the software Gencont 2.
