Since the 1980s, the expansion of global seismographic networks has allowed the rise of systematic analysis tools of moderate to large magnitude earthquakes (Mw>5.5). Following this approach, the SCARDEC method (Vallée, 2011) is able to extract the source time function (which is the moment rate function), seismic moment, average depth, and focal mechanism of more than 3000 earthquakes since 1992. Thanks to a deconvolutive approach, the source time functions include the whole complexity available in the data. In particular, source time functions obtained at different stations slightly differ from the absolute function under the effect of the rupture spatio-temporal complexity, and are thus apparent.
