Palm oil plantations have a very important role for the Indonesian economy. The area of palm oil plantation in 2014 is 10.9 million Ha consisting of Smallholdings 4.55 Million Ha (41.55%), State Plantation (Plantation owned by the government) 0.75 Million Ha (6.85%) and Private Plantation 5.66 Million Ha (51.62%). Plantation land generally comes from deforestation and peat land use.
