PRODUCTIVIDAD DE LA APICULTURA EN COMUNIDADES MAYAS DEL LITORAL CENTRO DE YUCATÁN, MÉXICO

In this study, the objective was to estimate the productivity of the main factors and inputs that are used in bee-keeping, as well as to measure the influence of the socioeconomic variables on the level of yield. The field information was obtained through a survey by stratified statistical sampling. The productivity of the inputs and factors was estimated based on the dictates of economic theory, while the influence of socioeconomic factors was measured through a multiple linear regression model. It was confirmed that there is a significant difference between the productivity means by stratum; its contribution in the workday, kilogram of sugar used in feeding, and investment in assets for every thousand pesos, presented a growing trend when increasing the average possession of beehives. The social factors of age, schooling and seniority of the producer exert a limited influence on the productivity, which can be considered as non-determinant, although not so the influence of capital. Every favorable change in the productivity per beehive increases the importance of small-scale apiculture in the rural environment.En este estudio se buscó estimar la productividad de los principales factores e insumos que se emplean en la actividad apícola, así como medir la influencia de las variables socioeconómicas sobre el nivel de rendimiento. La información de campo se obtuvo a través de una encuesta por muestreo estadístico estratificado. La productividad de los insumos y factores se estimó con base en los dictados de la teoría económica, mientras que la influencia de los factores socioeconómicos se midió a través de un modelo de regresión lineal múltiple. Se constató que existe diferencia significativa entre las medias de productividad por estrato; la contribución en ésta de la jornada laboral, kilogramo de azúcar utilizado en la alimentacióny por cada mil pesos de inversión en activos, presentaron tendencia hacia la alza al aumentar la tenencia promedio de colmenas. Los factores sociales edad, escolaridad y antigüedad del productor ejercen una limitada influencia sobre la productividad, que pueden considerarse como no determinantes, no así la influencia del capital. Todo cambio favorable en la productividad por colmena, incrementa la importancia de la apicultura a pequeña escala en el medio rural
