MAGUEY PULQUERO (Agave salmiana Otto ex Salm-Dyck): OPCIÓN PARA DESARROLLO RURAL

Pulque maguey (Agave salmiana) is reproduced in the Mexican highlands; its cultivation and exploitation date back to Pre-Hispanic times. It adapts to different climate conditions and provides a variety of environmental products and services. Historically, maguey is designated as the most ancient plant in México. The causes that led to the near extinction of the maguey plant in the region were determined, and it was analyzed whether the integral exploitation of maguey is a viable option that can contribute to the development of a rural community in Veracruz, México, showing as results that the exploitation of pulque maguey is profitable and a feasible option for the development of the ejido, because of its economic and social impacts.El maguey pulquero (Agave salmiana) se reproduce en el altiplano mexicano, su cultivo y aprovechamiento se remontan a la época prehispánica. Se adapta a condiciones climáticas difíciles y proporciona variedad de productos y servicios ambientales. Históricamente se designa al maguey como la planta más antigua de México. Se determinaron cuáles son las causas que han llevado al borde de extinción a la planta de maguey en la región y analizó si el aprovechamiento integral del maguey es una opción viable que puede contribuir al desarrollo en una comunidad rural de Veracruz, México, registrando como resultados que el aprovechamiento del maguey pulquero es rentable y una opción factible para el desarrollo del ejido, por sus impactos económicos y sociales
