ESTRATEGIAS SILVOPASTORILES PARA MITIGAR EFECTOS DEL CAMBIO CLIMÁTICO EN SISTEMAS GANADEROS DEL SUR DE MÉXICO

In the states of Campeche, Chiapas and Tabasco, in Southern México, important socioeconomic changes have taken place in the last 80 years. The population and economic activities linked to agriculture and livestock production have increased. The latter has impacted the forest areas negatively in the last 35 years, and has contributed to the increase of greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. In addition, it has increased the vulnerability of the agricultural and livestock production systems, and of the human population devoted to this activity. To mitigate the effects of climate change and improve the sustainability of the livestock systems, agroecological strategies havebeen developed, such as forest grazing arrangements linked to producers of scarce economic resources as an option to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change, under the premise that tree and shrub species improves the quality of fodder and animal diet and can decrease the emissions of greenhouse gas emissions and induce the sustainability of the systems.En los Estados de Campeche, Chiapas y Tabasco, en el Sur de México, han ocurrido importantes cambios socioeconómicos en los últimos 80 años. Se ha incrementado la población y las actividades económicas vinculadas a la agricultura y ganadería. Esta última ha impactado negativamente las áreas forestales en los últimos 35 años, y ha contribuido al incremento de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero como el dióxido de carbono, metano y óxido nitroso. Además ha incrementado la vulnerabilidad de los sistemas de producción agropecuarias y de la población humana dedicada a esta actividad. Para mitigar los efectos del cambio climático y mejorar la sustentabilidad de los sistemas pecuarios se han desarrollado estrategias agroecológicas tales como, arreglos silvopastoriles vinculadas a productores de escasos recursos económicos como opción para mitigar y adaptarse a los efectos del cambio climático, bajo la premisa de que las especies arbóreas y arbustivas mejoran la calidad del forraje y nutrición animal y pueden disminuir las emisiones de los gases con efecto invernadero e inducir la sustentabilidad de los sistemas
