ANÁLISIS DEL CONFLICTO ENTRE LA FAUNA SILVESTRE Y PRODUCTORES RURALES EN DOS COMUNIDADES DE BALANCÁN, TABASCO, MÉXICO

The expansion of human beings towards rural areas has increased the contact and occasional conflict with wild fauna. This study analyzes the conflict between wild fauna and rural producers in two ejidos of southeastern México. Interviews were carried out with inhabitants devoted to agricultural, livestock and commercial production in the ejidos. It was found that the lands most affected were used for agriculture and livestock production. The species with highest incidence of conflict were the coyote (Canis latrans) and the birds, as well as domestic cats and dogs. The producers use agrochemicals to poison baits and thus control the pest fauna, while others use firearm hunting. The types of conflict vary from the depredation of animals, to the destruction of crops. It is necessary to analyze in detail the relationship that rural producers have with wild fauna to achieve better use and conservation. The results are the first approximations to the understanding of the fauna-man conflict in eastern Tabasco, México.La expansión del ser humano hacia áreas rurales ha incrementado el contacto y eventualmente el conflicto con la fauna silvestre. Este estudio analiza el conflicto entre la fauna silvestre y los productores rurales en dos ejidos del sureste de México. Se realizaron entrevistas a pobladores dedicados a la producción agrícola, ganadera y comercial en los ejidos. Se registró que los terrenos más afectados fueron agrícolas y ganaderos. Las especies con mayor incidencia de conflicto fueron el coyote (Canis latrans) y las aves, así como gatos y perros domésticos. Los productores usan agroquímicos para envenenar cebos y así controlar a la fauna plaga. Mientras que otros utilizan la cacería con armas de fuego. Los tipos de conflicto varían desde depredación de animales, hasta la destrucción de los cultivos. Es necesario analizar a detalle la relación que los productores rurales tienen con la fauna silvestre para lograr un mejor aprovechamiento y conservación. Los resultados son las primeras aproximaciones al entendimiento del conflicto fauna-hombre en el oriente de Tabasco, México
