In summer 1988, the Austrian Institute of Economic Research surveyed 850 Austrian manufacturing enterprises on the following questions: Extent of direct foreign investment, forms and degree of, and motives for internationalization, plans and strategies for future direct investment, and "new forms of internationalization", such as joint ventures and other forms of cooperation. The results indicate that internationalization is a slow process which is mainly engaged in by enterprises that are more innovative and spend more on research and development than the average firm.Direktinvestitionen und Beteiligungen im Ausland.
