They canalsobeeventsthathappenonlyinthesimulated world,suchasanactivitythatmigrates,bringingincreasedactivitytoadifferentfederate. Asaresultof these events, the distributedsimulationmayhaveto restructure itself to maintainrealisticbehavior. The restructuring musttake place in accordance with a setof rules mandatedby both the domainandspecific application. Restructuring decisions must rely on information from both the simulated world and the system configurat ion. Reconfigurat ions mustbe madequicklytominimizeunrealisticbehavior. Automaticreconfigurationisnotonlyfasterthanmanual, butautomaticrestructuring bringstheaddedbenefit offewersupportstaff. Wecalltheautomaticrestructuring of adistributed application with respect to atsetofrules Compensating Reconfiguration andwe have developed asoftware engineering environment thatcould be used to support its inclusion in DoD distributedsimulations.
