In this paper, a model is described to add human-like scent perception to the Spatial Model of Interaction (SMI) [BF93]. The SMI is a generally accepted model for interaction between Intelligent Virtual Agents in Virtual Environments. The extension of the SMI with scent perception consists of Virtual Odor and a Virtual Nose Sensor. Virtual Odor is represented by particles in the Virtual Environment. The Virtual Nose consists of an Artificial Neural Network, through this network the virtual molecules of odor can be identified and the class and density of the odor can be determined. This output, combined with visual and hearing perception, contributes to an action-selection in the extended SMI
