This paper presents a new incremental approach to geometric constraint satisfaction that is tailored to interactive applications. Our approach categorizes solutions into geometric primitives representing a range of solutions with uniform geometric characteristics. This scheme keeps intermediate solutions in the geometric domain, providing geometrically meaningful feedback to the user and the ability tointerlace the interpretation of previous and new geometric constraints on the same high level of abstraction. This approach preserves the declarative semantics of constraints and leads to a number of advantages, including graceful handling of underconstrained speci cations, the natural processing of expressions of both conjunctive and disjunct...
