Heterogeneous computing platforms constitute a challenging execution environment for distributed applications. This paper presents a ’systems ’ view of effective platform usage, by demonstrating the need for application software to be continuously ‘aware ’ of the resources currently available on their underlying heterogeneous computing platforms.
