Abstract — In this paper, we present the design and evaluation of a partial state router. A partial state router maintains a fixed amount of state irrespective of the number of flows served at the router. We show the practical feasibility of partial state routers by implementing a novel partial state scheme, LRU-FQ, on the Linux platform. We report on our experience in employing the developed LRU-FQ router in several realistic experiments. Our results show the effectiveness of LRU-FQ in controlling highbandwidth traffic and providing better response times for web traffic. We also present a detailed evaluation of the developed router to demonstrate the feasibility and scalability of partial state schemes
