this paper, we use a global threedimensional chemical tracer model (GEOS-CHEM) [Bey et al., 2001a] driven by assimilated meteorological observations from the Goddard Earth Observing System data assimilation system (GEOS DAS) at the NASA Data Assimilation Office (DAO) to quantify anthropogenic and natural influences on ozone over the Pacific Rim through simulation of the ozonesonde observations in the region. We place a particular focus on Hong Kong (22#N, 114#E) where a new multiyear record of intensive ozonesonde observations is available [Chan et al., 1998; Liu et al., 1999
