Four strategic research directions are then presented: technologies integration, software components, distributed programming, and open implementations. This report is based on the position statements of the authors, available at [OO working group 96], and on the discussions held during the ACM Workshop on Strategic Directions in Computing (MIT, June 1996). 1.
