this paper we present a modelling and simulation language for the design of those systems. The main elements of this language are the HiFAQ's (Hierarchical Functional Augmented Queuing Networks). HiFAQ's consist of three layers: the transformatorial, the reactive and the architectural layer. Elements of the HiFAQ's are functional and architectural model elements. Each element is associated to one of the three layers. After the interfaces between the layers are defined, the layers can be modelled seperately. Depending on the point of view, one gets a transformatorial functional view, a reactive functional view or an architectural/resource oriented view.
