STRUCTURED PERFORMABILITY ANALYSIS OF FAULT TOLERANT PARALLEL AND DISTRIBUTED APPLICATIONS John P. Dougherty DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Temple University, 1998 Yuan Shi, Ph.D., Advisor Structured Performability Analysis (SPA) is a unified speed and availability evaluation methodology for practical, large scale distributed applications. This evaluation can be used to guide the developer before and during design and implementation. SPA involves a systematic set of steps to decompose a large application for top-down as well as bottom-up analysis. SPA is scalable, supports variable-precision modeling, and is trackable. SPA is presented formally, and then the mathematical foundation of SPA is compared to existing availability models. Decomposition syn...
