A current concern in photo-realistic image synthesis is increasing the diversity of surface reflectance characteristics which may be simultaneously present in a scene, while still permitting the scene to be rendered in a reasonable amount of time. Scenes which may be rendered practically are restricted to those which consist of some combination of perfect Lambertian diffuse emitters/reflectors and perfect mirrors. In fact, only the method of Sillion and Puech[18] has been available for practical rendering of these scenes. A new method is proposed which extends the radiosity method of Wallace, et al.[20], to handle these scenes. The new method appears to provide some improvement in image quality, but may prove less efficient for some scenes....
