Abstract: The gear fault is usually accompanied with signal discontinuity. The gear fault vibration signals are mostly unstable, nonlinear and time varying signal, so it is important to choose a suitable signal analysis method. The most common method in the analysis of nonlinear time series is the Method of Delays. Many techniques have been suggested to choose appropriate parameters, like embedding dimension m and delay time τ. In this paper, a unit algorithm of FNN (False Nearest Neighbors) and AD (Average Displacement) methods to select m and τ. The algorithm fit to Rössler system and the results are quite identical to empirical choice, which confirms our idea. Copyright © 2014 IFSA Publishing, S. L
