Three areas of research have largely dominated the study of human consciousness in recent years. These domains include the study of cerebral states providing the basic conditions for the emergence of conscious experiences, scientific investigations on the feelings of selfhood, embodiment and voluntary actions, and research about how we become aware of certain mental content.
