With the increase in population and food demand, and, the limit of water and land available, novel methods are needed to produce food. Over the last decades, there has been a growth in controlled environments, especially greenhouses, and the use of hydroponic systems to produce food. In this context, the present thesis elaborates different approaches to grow food in a hydroponic system using organic fertilizers.The first study investigated different techniques to prepare a nutrient solution with cow, chicken and turkey manure. The objective of the study was to determine the impact of aerated manure extract on the growth of lettuce and kale under different manure concentrations.
