‘Diversity’ and ‘Inclusion’ are keywords that are becoming more prevalent in architectural discourse, including a return to a discussion of, otherness. ‘Otherness’ is a sense of being different from normative ideals – people who are defined as ‘other’ are also called edge walkers. In this sense, in the opening up of discursive boundaries, by pushing cultural limits, Edgewalkers are described as “cultural brokers” who contribute towards shaping “new ethnicities in the New Zealand context” (Fleras, Spoonley, 1999, 214).
