From the last decade of the 20th Century, and especially relating to the so-called digital revolution and the new media, the bazinian topics about the ontology of cinema (its photographic base) and other correlative matters, such as the supposed lost of its referential power, its relation with the visual arts, the realism, etc. were taken over in accordance with the notion of index by C.S. Peirce. Facing this scenario that soon became saturated and reached certain nonsense, we review four authors who have distanced themselves from embedding the bazinian ontology into semiotics, and have proposed instead other epistemological areas to the intrinsic relationship between photography and the physical world.
