Studies of indigenous hunting practices point out that hunting is a crucial axis of interaction between humans and non-humans. In an animistic system, prey are endowed with a soul and considered persons, so taking their life requires abiding by a complex set of obligations. This article builds on a long ethnographic field research period among the Lacandon Maya of Mexico to analyze their hunting practices. The study shows that from a Lacandon relational context and according to their conception of personhood and of local alterity, "depredation" becomes a relation of reciprocity and alliance on which rests social and cosmic equilibrium.Os estudos relacionados com as práticas cinegéticas indígenas indicam que a caça representa um momento cruc...
