Selective laser sintering of polymers is a process to produce complex components layer-by-layer by selective melting of a powder bed with a focused laser beam. The advantages of crucible-free processing, freedom of design, material diversity and resource efficiency make this process unique and particularly interesting for industrial, academic and consumer applications. Although a large number of production machines are commercially available, there are still gaps in the understanding of the relevant consolidation mechanisms at powder level.
