Snow avalanches are natural hazards which cause damage to nature, persons, and property in mountainous terrain. But when and where happens avalanches and how large are they? A complete avalanche activity record over an entire winter season is important for the present avalanche research and forecasting which cannot be provided by traditional field measurements. Especially during strong snowfalls, like in January 2018 and 2019 in the Alps, information about avalanches is relevant in order to estimate the damage.
