The project Next Generation Train (NGT) is an interdisciplinary approach of researchers from several institutes of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) to face the changing demands for railway vehicles and design a prospective train concept. To reach a travel speed of up to 400 km/h while reducing energy consumption, noise and wear is a challenging high level goal of the project. To achieve this, a novel mechatronic bogie with independently rotating wheels is designed aiming for enhanced running dynamics and continued floors on both levels of the double deck car body.
