This thesis discusses the modeling of instrumentation and control (I&C) architecture and the verification of the defense-in-depth principles in the I&C architecture with the help of a computer software. The objective of this thesis is to produce, based on stakeholder needs, requirements that can be utilized in the computer software development. The theoretical part of this thesis covers nuclear safety, the principle of defense-in-depth, the role of I&C in the safe functioning of a nuclear power plant and the notion of I&C architecture and its development.
