This chapter presents examples of placemaking interventions at different scales from the state of Queensland, Australia. This chapter includes different urban and suburban contexts and different scales at which placemaking initiatives occur: the inner-city (Brisbane), the suburban fringe (Brolga Lakes residential project) and coastal areas (Gold Coast). Based on the work of John Mongard, we define placemaking as a philosophy and a process to facilitate and create place. In this process: “both planning and design aim at facilitating place”. That is, the focus of planning and design processes is the implementation of projects that create high-quality places.
