On the Chinese Loess Plateau, soil erosion models are often employed to predict erosion rates and responses to land‐use/‐cover changes (LUCCs). Previous Loess Plateau studies employed individual models with specific emphases but model comparisons have not been undertaken so the relative performance of different models is not known. In this study we employed two extensively applied models (RUSLE and PESERA) to investigate the impact of LUCCs during 1990–2000 and 2000–2011 on soil erosion rates for a typical Loess Plateau catchment (i.e. Huangfuchuan), and compared their modelling results.
