This article explores the revival of an Aboriginal mourning ritual from Victoria, the Kopi Mourning Cap. This practice, which was lost since about the end of the nineteenth century, consisted in the making of a clay helmet that mourners had to wear over their heads, sometimes up to six months, until the clay would disintegrate. The « cap » could also be placed on top of the grave of the deceased. This ritual has been recently revived by Maree Clarke as an artistic and therapeutic practice, to which non-indigenous people are also invited to take part.
