Jérôme Bourgon : A Jurist Called Yuan Mei. Yuan Mei (1716-1798) is the most famous poet of the Qing period. His literary fame concealed the fact that he was engaged for some time in local magistracy, and devoted a number of his writings to the art of government. Among those, the most influent on the long range were the texts which connect him with a legal tradition that he had received from his family. The first part of this article is a temptative for rebuilding his legal decisions, despite the scarcity of the sources which have come down to us.
