This study examined the history, identity, and politics of Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslims. The thesis identified key impediments to the Rohingya’s rights and citizenship claims in Myanmar. The findings indicated that removing the link between ethnicity and citizenship rights, and prioritising civilian oversight of the Myanmar military ought to be key goals of those working towards improved Rohingya access to human rights
