This makes exercise an effective stimulus to increase glucose uptake in insulin-resistant skeletal muscle. AMPK has been suggested to regulate muscle glucose uptake during exercise/contraction, but findings from studies of various AMPK transgenic animals have not reached consensus on this matter.
