Abstract

The Glafkos’ river basin is extended on the west side of the Panaxaikon mountain in the northwest area of the prefecture of Achaia, southeast of the city of Patras, occupying a total extent of 101,67 Km2 and constituting the main source of Patras’ water needs. It is characterized by the mediocre growth of the hydrographical network (a dendrite type of draining) and consequently the high permeability of rocks and the important infiltration at the expense of the runoff. The most important torrents that flow through the region of research are Xiropotamos, Filiouras, Souta, Verveniou and Elekistrianiko, which contribute inside the Glafkos River.
