The top management team (TMT) is the small group of executives that decides on the vision for the firm, charts strategic direction, and sets the tone for the entire culture of the organization. Over the last few decades, female representation on the TMTs has grown from virtual non-existence to roughly one in four executives being a woman (Catalyst 2017). It is well established that, in the general populace, women tend to have different cognitive bases and value systems compared to men, but far less research has been conducted to see how these differences might influence female leadership in the TMT and impact firm-level decisions and strategies.
