Neste estudo foram selecionadas sequências metagenômicas do intestino de Syntermes wheeleri, um cupim endêmico do Cerrado brasileiro, para seleção, purificação e caracterização de uma celulase. Entre as sequências selecionadas e produzidas em Escherichia coli (DE3) foi escolhida apenas uma para o trabalho, uma β-glicosidase GH3 (β-G 72-26) que apresentou melhor produção em relação às outras (β-1,4-endoglucanase e exoglucanase).
