Virtual mobility: flipping the global classroom for a blended learning opportunity

Business professionals are increasingly operating across cultures and time zones as industry globalizes. At the same time, technology is presenting more effective ways to communicate and connect over vast distances. Universities need to create innovative approaches for developing students skills to operate in this global multicultural environment. This chapter presents a case study of how a university moved from a traditional learning abroad approach to a blended virtual mobility model in an attempt to provide contemporary skills and more inclusive global learning opportunities. The case study also reveals how communication technology enabled students to develop skills to operate globally. The chapter concludes with a model designed from innovative experimentation that provides more accessibility and scalability in global learning opportunities for students
