There is also a folder of photocopied correspondence, tributes, and newspaper clippings.Biographical/Historical Note: Richard C. Foster, son of John M. and Mabel C. Foster, was born on 12 July 1895, in Demopolis, Alabama. He grew up inTuscaloosa and Montgomery, Alabama, and was educated at the local public schools. He received an A.B. degree from the University of Alabama in 1914, and his LL.B. degree from the School of Law at Harvard University. After serving as an Artillery Captain in the U.S. Army during World War I, he returned to Tuscaloosa and began practicing law with his father, in the firm of Foster, Verner and Rice. In the early 1920s he married Lida Scarbrough; the couple had one daughter, Lida. Mrs. Foster died on 21 September 1936 just three weeks before Foster was chosen to be president of the University of Alabama on 11 October 1936. Foster himself died on 19 November 1941
